Just the other day, President Biden said “What the hell is wrong with us?” He seemed answered himself with the following headlines “quoting him!” Basically, politicians around the world talk too much because they thought that they are powerful and literally what whatever they said mean it was “done,” really?

The challenge for these politicians is that “how to deliver?” It turns out “the devil is in the details!” As such politicians who talk too much exposed their weakness with “grand standing” and they actually diminish their own credibility.

President Biden’s public stance on Taiwan has flipped and flopped quite a few times. Every time, his staff had to walk back means contradicting him politely. In this case, Biden might feel that he had to be tough on China so he said that he will commit US manpower to defend Taiwan if China uses military force to “unite Taiwan.”

But it is not clear at all on what legal ground that President Biden could unilaterally order US military to defend Taiwan. Taiwan is not a treaty ally of the US; the Taiwan Relation Act does not authorize anyone in the US to mobilize US military to defend Taiwan in case of a war broke out in Taiwan. Further, a war in Taiwan theoretically does not have to be an “invasion” from mainland China. The Senkaku Island or the Daoyutai island is a hotly contested territory that mainland China, Taiwan, and Japan all claim ownership. Just in case, if a war between China and Japan broke out over the Senkaku island, will the US forces fight with Japanese, which is a treaty ally of the US?

Biden’s stance on Taiwan, especially in terms of direct military support at best is his personal opinion that is not a legitimate US government position. No US President can unilaterally declare war against any foreign war because the President of the US, by constitution, must secure Congresses approval.

Biden’s supporting level has increased to 45% lately, if he wishes to wadge a direct war with China or any other major power, he will have to persuade at least additional 5% of the US populations.

Finally, will the people in Taiwan welcome and accept US troops to the island? At least, Biden will need a formal or legitimate invitation from Taiwan before taking any military actions on Taiwan.

US is facing fundamental challenges at home: Biden warns US democracy threatened, but how can he save it? There is no reason that Biden’s international agenda can take off. As of now, Biden has not been able to fix the problems at home, so who will consider Biden as a bona fide global leader?

As for 2024, there is no reason at all that Biden should run for the second term. Not only his first term so far has not earned a passing grade, but he will also be 81 years old then! Please take it easy and give younger generations a chance, you have done enough damages already during the past 50 years in DC!

Biden says U.S. forces would defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden said in an interview broadcast on Sunday that U.S forces would defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion, his most explicit statement so far on the issue.

Asked in a CBS 60 Minutes interview whether U.S. forces would defend the self-ruled island claimed by China, he replied: “Yes, if in fact, there was an unprecedented attack.”

Asked to clarify if he meant that unlike in Ukraine U.S. forces, men and women, would defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion, Biden replied: “Yes.”

The interview was just the latest time that Biden has appeared to go beyond long-standing stated U.S. policy on Taiwan, but his statement was clearer than previous ones about committing U.S. troops to the defend the island.

Asked to comment, a White House spokesperson said U.S. policy towards Taiwan had not changed.

“The President has said this before, including in Tokyo earlier this year. He also made clear then that our Taiwan policy hasn’t changed. That remains true,” the spokesperson said.

The United States has long stuck to a policy of not making clear whether it would respond militarily to an attack on Taiwan.

In May, Biden was asked if he was willing to get involved militarily to defend Taiwan and replied https://www.reuters.com/world/biden-meets-japanese-emperor-start-visit-launch-regional-economic-plan-2022-05-23: “Yes … That’s the commitment we made.”

In the 60 Minutes interview, Biden reiterated that the United States did not support Taiwanese independence and remained committed to a “One-China” policy in which Washington officially recognizes Beijing not Taipei.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is finding it’s easier to call out attacks on democracy than it is to stop them.

His fundamental rationale for running for president was that America’s democratic traditions were in jeopardy. Now, 20 months into his presidency, the dangers are worse, Biden’s warnings are more dire — and the limits of his own ability to fix the problem are clearer.
